In Fall 2023, I am teaching

Information on classes from previous terms is available here.

I created the course MATH 492: Industrial and Applied Mathematics Clinic, and have served as director of the Saluki Analytics Lab. In both of these structures SIUC undergraduate students, primarily in the mathematical and statistical sciences, provide technical consulting services for clients including Ameren, Naval Surface Warfare Center (Crane), The Women's Center, and a regional healthcare provider. If you are a student and want to participate in these experiences, or if your organization has a problem you'd like our students to work on, please let me know.

My research is in the area of mathematical logic. Some preprints are listed below. Other preprints may be found here.

One of my major projects recently is a book on Mathematical Logic and Probability. Drafts of some portions of the book are available here.

I am glad to talk with students about the possibility of undergraduate or graduate research projects. I am open to thinking about a broad range of topics, but some ideas for graduate thesis work may be found here

  • I am organizing an Online Logic Seminar that meets by Zoom on Thursdays at 1:00pm US Central Time (currently UTC-5).
  • I have worked extensively in the area of mathematical professional development for in-service and pre-service K-12 teachers. Those looking to better equip themselves or teachers under their supervision for the enormous content knowledge demands of modern standards-based teaching would do well to call upon me or my colleagues at the SIUC Center for STEM Education Research.
  • I also work in the area of informal STEM education. I am STEM Coordinator for the Egyptian District (Greater St. Louis Area Council) of the Boy Scouts of America. Some of my work with BSA has been reported here.
